What has this country come to? Injustice? War? Poverty? Controlling the media? Since when has one lobby group been given such a big say as the IPA? Federal ICAC is needed into political donations. House of reps represent companies rather than voters.

This budget frames the current government as despotic and plutocratic.

Mea Culpa, I voted for Abbott because I wanted to get rid of the Rudd-Gillard government. I now feel betrayed by Abbott. The only thing that could change my mind now is a double dissolution. Recast my vote now that I know what he is really like.

I have never felt so depressed and worried before about the state of things. Seriously. The Abbott Government through this budget is, as pointed out increasingly more often, simple-mindedly following ideological patterns of thought rather than actually thinking through what it will mean to have:

No Renewable Energy Target. Good one Oz!

Higher Education dismantled and students accruing US-style life-long debt to pay for their degrees. Yes, let’s wreck everything that’s good about further education in Australia!

Draconian and mean-spirited measures which will force many young/unemployed people into poverty before they even have a chance to build their working life. Sad and plain mean!

Up-front fees for basic medical attention. We already know who will be hardest hit by the co-payment strategy if it were to get through Parliament.

And the other thing that deeply worries me is the proposed adoption by this government of the Investor State Dispute Settlement (ISDS). John Howard rejected it as did Labour governments that followed. Of course, I heard about it on ABC Radio National. Privatise the ABC? Yes, great idea Tony, then no one will find out anything important and have to worry about it.

I have to ask: what (if anything) is the Abbott Government thinking? Answer seems to be that this is a government that does not think. It just reproduces its own rhetoric and follows the ideological consequences into what would become a very very frightening set of policies for Australia and beyond.
